If you have energy to giggle at that prediction you know for many of us the opposite has happened. Increased length and stress of workdays and weeks, increased stress on parenting skills and family schedules, increased pressure on students, decreased time/or ability to sleep or engage in self-care are all taking a toll. If combined with underlying biological traits or unhealthy life/family experiences, depression and anxiety can become overwhelming…we need help.

Call for help! For many people it can be intimidating and/ or anxiety producing to schedule or attend a counseling appointment. Even more so if a person is anxious or depressed!

I have been working with individuals, couples and families as a licensed therapist for over 20 years and strive to make it less intimidating. I work with clients collaboratively from a non-judgmental, strength-based approach using a combination of approaches and interventions based on the your needs and situation.

It’s all about the Amygdala. I have a special interest and training in the treatment of anxiety-based issues. Anyone who is intelligent, motivated, sensitive and has high expectations for themselves is potentially susceptible to intrusive anxiety, especially if there is a family history of anxiety.

The good news: from a brain-based perspective, we know more about anxiety than any other mental health issue. I help clients understand the biology and physiology of anxiety so they can apply effective tools to first manage, and then decrease anxiety’s counterproductive influences.

I have lived in the St. Croix Valley most of my life…on both sides of the river. I have been married for 30+ years and understand strengths and challenges of relationships. I have 4 children – 3 biological and 1 adopted – and as a parent have experienced IEPs and 504 plans as well as “Gifted and Talented” programs and issues related to both. Like many of you, I have struggled with the challenges of keeping healthy as an individual, and as a couple, amidst the growing demands of parenting.

Raised as a “river rat”, water is my “happy place”. I enjoy water activities of all kinds. I enjoy travel, with a special appreciation for Guatemala. Frustrated with the Vikings I have become an avid soccer fan. ”Go UWM Panthers!” “C’mon you Loons!”

“I have been through some terrible things in my life. Some of which have actually happened.”

~Mark Twain
